Every child’s journey in learning to read and write is unique.

Some kids love stories but struggle to make sense of the squiggles on the page that we call letters. Other kids decode words off the page with ease, but they aren’t sure what’s happening in the story.

If you are worried about your child’s reading and writing skills, you are not alone. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress, 66% of fourth graders in 2022 were reading below grade-level proficiency, and 37% of those students lacked basic reading skills.

Thankfully, there are research-proven strategies for teaching students to read and reading specialists who can help!

I’m Anna, and I help students learn. My journey with the written word led me to an MFA in writing and a Ph.D. in literature, but what I love most is teaching kids to read and write!

I spent over a decade working for a learning company that targets students’ oral and written language processing,

  • helping parents understand how their children learn,

  • designing interventions for students with learning difficulties,

  • and coaching teachers in research-validated, multisensory literacy and math instruction.

I started AnnaWestTutors because I missed working with students directly. I care deeply about my students and believe in every child’s potential.
